Session Transcript

A complete log of everything said and done in an AI coding session, kept as a file on your computer.

Definition

A local JSONL log of every message and tool call in an agent session. Claude Code stores transcripts under ~/.claude/projects, one file per session, which usage trackers can read to measure real token consumption.

Example

Drop a ~/.claude/projects/<project>/<session>.jsonl file into the usage tool to see each turn's tokens, cache hits, and API-equivalent cost.
