A token allowance the AI can see counting down, so it paces itself and wraps up before running out.
Definition
An advisory token budget for an agentic loop (output_config.task_budget, beta) that the model sees as a countdown, so it paces its work and finishes cleanly instead of being cut off. The minimum total is 20,000 tokens.
Example
Give a refactor a 200,000-token task_budget; as the countdown nears zero, the model finishes the current file and summarizes what is left.
